In the previous post I wrote about setting a profit expectation and close the position there seems to be a good idea. Here is a story what helped me learn this. On the last days of 2021 I bought (not for the first time over the past years) shares of one of the largest Hungarian banks at an average of HUF 16,555 / share. Less than 2 weeks later the shares were traded at HUF 18,600. More than 12% profit within a few days! Again, I hoped it will go further up, so I didn’t close the positions. I should have: since then the yearly minimum was below HUF 8,000 and at the time of writing this post the share are being traded around HUF 10,300.
After the price started going south, following some good advice, I started buying the same amount of shares in every or every other month as a result of which I managed to push the break-even point to HUF 10,813. I still hold these shares and I’m about to set a profit expectation for selling.
